House of the Dragon

House of the Dragon, which is also being marketed as Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon, is an upcoming prequel series for the Game of Thrones franchise. HBO placed the order for it in October of 2019. The events of the prequel take place approximately two hundred years in the past and focus on the beginning of the fall of the once- immortal dynasty that ruled over the seven kingdoms that make up Westeros.

Both Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik are responsible for running the show and are executive producers. In addition to George R.R. Martin, Vince Gerardis, Sara Hess, and Ron Schmidt, Greg Yaitanes is an executive producer on the show. Ron Schmidt is also a co-executive producer. On August 21, 2022, the first episode of the first season was broadcast.

It has reported in May of 2022 by Redanian Intelligence that HBO had quietly renewed the series for a second season and that writing had already begun on the second season.

Narrative

The narrative of House of the Dragon on HBO takes place during the height of the Targaryen reign. During a time when the Civil War was changing the world. And it features a significant number of connections to Game of Thrones. Following the controversial conclusion of the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones in 2019, HBO announced that they are considering producing multiple spinoffs based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series of books. In spite of the fact that a number of the Game of Thrones prequels, including “The Long Night,” have already been scrapped, “House of the Dragon” is moving ahead with production in an effort to reinvigorate audience enthusiasm for the Game of Thrones universe.

The powerful houses of Lannister and Targaryen are still significant amount of attention throughout Game of Thrones, despite the fact that the show’s primary focus was frequently on the historic House Stark. The titular Targaryens will take up the majority of the focus in the House of the Dragon prequel series. While House Stark will religate to more or less the background for the duration of the series. A significant number of Targaryens are involve in this conflict due to the fact that it is taking place just prior to the destruction of House Targaryen. One could argue that there are too many Targs. It would be helpful to have some name tags.

King Viserys I is currently ruling Westeros as the reigning monarch. He’s a pretty chill dude all things considered. To give you an idea of how far back in time we are talking about here, Viserys I is Daenerys’ great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather. His children and other loved ones are currently engaged in a struggle for the position of power that will be theirs after he passes away.
Princess Rhaenyra is Viserys’ first daughter. Her dad favors her as his successor, but there are others. The action seems to center on her. Consider her the show’s Daenerys. She wants to rule and has the qualifications, but men keep blocking her. Syrax is her drake.
Prince Aegon II is Viserys’ firstborn son and half-brother to Rhaenyra. He is a possible successor and a big part of the coming war.
Prince Daemon is Viserys and Rhaenyra’s uncle. He’s like Hamlet: always a prince, never a king. He’s a rake, and he and Rhaenyra have a lot of sexual tension, which is par for the course in this fam.
Alicent is Viserys’ second wife and Rhaenyra’s stepmother. Aegon II’s mother wants to be Westeros’ first queen regnant, so she doesn’t like her stepdaughter. Bad stepmother? Groundbreaking. Everyone is corrupt and power-hungry at this point. She has Margaery Tyrell vibes. RIP queen)

On the 21st of August, 2022, the first episode of House of the Dragon will be made available to the public for viewing.
