Waititi signed on to write and direct a fourth Thor picture in July 2019, with Hemsworth returning. Waititi wanted to do “something more fascinating for me to keep the whole thing sparked and stimulated.” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed the film’s title and release date at San Diego Comic-Con that month. Natalie Portman, who played Jane Foster in Thor (2011) and Thor: The Dark World, will return (2013).
Christian Bale entered talks to join the cast in January 2020; pre-production begins in April. Thompson confirmed a month later that Bale will play the villain, and Vin Diesel, who voices Groot in the MCU films. Indicated the Guardians of the Galaxy would be in it.

Writing
Waititi announced the film in July 2019, saying Foster would become the Mighty Thor. Feige stated the film would feature many elements from Marvel comics, including Foster’s transformation into Mighty Thor. He added Marvel considered the Mighty Thor run one of the best recent comics. When Waititi decided to direct another Thor picture. He wanted Foster to play the Mighty Thor.
After discussing with Waititi, the studio agreed to adapt Aaron’s story and incorporate Portman. Waititi says they committed to Foster’s comics’ storyline and adapted the best portions.
He also added that Thor having his axe Stormbreaker. And then seeing his hammer Mjolnir return “in the hands of someone else” would explore “the idea that someone’s taking his place.” Something he felt some fans assumed would occur but did not believe. A. C. Bradley, lead writer of What If…?, presented an episode in which Foster would have become Thor. But the idea was rejected because the premise was already being used for Love and Thunder.
Thor: Love and Thunder follows Thor as he seeks inner peace. But must return to action to stop Gorr the God Butcher from killing all gods. By mid-April 2020, four or five versions of the screenplay had been completed. And Waititi stated the sequel was “so over the top in the very best way.” And would make Ragnarok look “run of the mill. Very safe” by doubling down on its crazier features.
He wanted to make the picture as though “10-year-olds told us what to include. And we agreed” Waititi said the film will examine Korg’s Kronan culture. But include the Space Sharks. He wanted to use Beta Ray Bill but wasn’t sure if he would. The film also shows Falligar the Behemoth, one of Gorr’s dead gods.
